We are nearly halfway through the Sammic BasqueStage application period, which ends April 15. Candidates who wish for a chance to win the six-month paid stage in Restaurant Martín Berasategui are busy submitting their applications. As we’ve mentioned before, the application consists of a registration form, resumé, and essay. The final piece that completes an application is the video, which should show your communication and culinary skills. Only once this piece is submitted will your candidacy show up on the website.
Those are the official steps to becoming the next BasqueStage. But we know you’re all curious to know more, so we’ve asked our current stages, Athena and Tracy, to offer any advice they wished they had gotten when they were working on their applications. None of the following is official, but it should give you a glimpse into what a successful candidacy might look like.
TRACY’S ADVICE:
- tell a story with the video
- cook something meaningful
- actually edit the video
ATHENA’S ADVICE:
- I think the blogs are the most important things. That’s not only a big part of the scholarship, but something tangible that you can look back on later and fully absorb….
- I think the videos are ll about personality. Mine was FAR from fancy, but I showed my personality and was chosen.
Zorte on! (Good luck!)
