In case you didn’t know, San Sebastián is not only home to some of the world’s best food. It’s also home to Europe’s second most important film festival, after Cannes. Zinemaldia is in its 59th year, and this year is an especially exciting one from our point of view. Not only are there tributes to the great French director Jacques Demy, American film noir, and digital Chinese cinema…this year there is a section devoted solely to cinema with a culinary theme.
Culinary Zinema features films about the world’s great restaurants and chefs: Mugaritz, Noma, Jiro and El Bullí. Yesterday, stages Cameron and Marco attended the screening of El Bullí : Cooking in Progress, a film that attemps to chronicle a year in the life of El Bullí chefs. The journey from the laboratory to the next season in the kitchen was interesting and informative. You can watch the trailer here:
Off to catch some more culinary cinema from Zinemaldi…
